Homeplug
What is a Homeplug?
A HomePlug is a device that makes it easy to use existing in-wall wiring for fast home networks.
We've all now heard about the wireless technology that enables us to connect to the internet or PC's without the use of wires, well now Homeplugs are available that make use of wires that already exist in your home or office.

Advantages of using a HomePlug
- Speed
Homeplugs are believed to have quicker connections. HomePlug's apparent maximum speed of 14 megabits per second is faster than the average 802.11b's 11-mbps top speed.
- Reliability
HomePlug does not entangle with other wireless traffic. It does not receive interference from walls and doors, all of which have been proven to slow down 802.11b signals, especially when working wireless over larger distances.
- Easy to Install
Novice networkers will find Homeplug much easier to install than a standard wireless bridge.
- Save Money on Console Wireless Adaptors
Why not buy a 3-way HomePlug and link up your Xbox 360, Playstation 3 or Nintendo Wii without paying for expensive individual adaptors for each console.
Disadvantages of using a HomePlug
- Price
Being relatively new to the market, HomePlugs are generally more expensive than USB adaptors. You will however find some great deals on this page.
- Mobility
Because HomePlug relies on wired electrical points, using a notebook away from your network will prove difficult. HomePlug PC Cards have not yet been announced to the market.
